The Autonomous Precision Approach and Landing System (APALS®) is a series
of interlocking technologies which combine to create our mission goal of safe approach and
landings, any airport, any weather, any time. From here you can explore the
APALS technologies, organized along the applications that need them.
- Precision Approaches
- Navigation with respect to the runway is the game in precision approaches. The
APALS Navigator is completely self-contained on-board the airplane, but it produces a
Category III quality Instrument Landing System at your destination runway. The
APALS Navigator's outputs feed your existing avionics and autopilot/flight director,
providing an identical operational environment to the airport having installed
conventional ILS ground equipment. Extended data is also provided to the APALS Same
As Visual Equipment and other advanced avionics.
-
- Same-As-Visual Equipment
- When the lack of airport improvements or fundamental aircraft capabilities limit you
ability to exploit the full potential of the APALS Navigator, our Same-As-Visual
Equipment package adds an environment better than a night visual approach, complete
with a PAPI, even though it is zero-zero in the real world!
-
- APALS Enhanced Safety Features
- Enhanced capability at secondary and uncontrolled airports needs to be balanced with
increases in operational safety. Our Advanced Safety Features package provide
sensors and tools to make uncontrolled airport operations much safer and also provide
backup when operating at major hub airports.
-
- WSC Services
- APALS equipment is only one aspect of completing our mission. It must be supported
with current data, approach procedures, our customer's operational training, maintenance
requirements, data collection, paperwork, and operational approval for low visibility
operations. WSC is developing these capabilities as part of our initial and on-going
certifications and is providing them to our customers. We are committed to creating
an environment where a single aircraft operator can cost effectively acquire and maintain
approval for very low visibility operations.
